Weekly Yoga Class Schedule

Hatha/Vinyasa

Group Yoga Class

Vinyasa means “movement “ and in yoga terms refers to the external movements of the body in conjunction with the internal movements of the breath. In this class we are aiming to align the breath with our movements until the breath and movement are no longer separate. Hatha yoga uses a variety of tools to bring about balance in the system working with physical poses or postures and breathing exercises. This practice can help with physical imbalances that may lead to pain or injuries, while improving flexibility and strength as well as offering breathing exercises which help regulate the nervous system and improve mental focus.

Slow Flow

Women Practicing Yoga

This class offers a relaxing and mindful practice designed to help you unwind and restore balance while progressively building some strength. It focuses on slow, intentional movements, deep stretches, and calming breathwork. Some of the core principles of a 'Slow Flow'  practice include  mindful placement,  Sukha Sthria Asanam- the balance between effort and ease, breath rhythm and flow. Modifications of poses and props are offered to adapt the practice so that is it suitable for all levels.

" We do not use the body to get into a pose, we use the pose to get into the body".

Bernie Clarke

Yin and Restorative Yoga provide a sanctuary where the nervous system can reset and reorient towards balance. In Yin Yoga the postures are held for extended periods, which allow tension stored deep within the connective tissues to unwind.  This quiet stillness invites the parasympathetic nervous system (rest-and-digest) response, counterbalancing the heightened sympathetic (fight-or-flight) activation that often dominates our lives.  Restorative Yoga builds on this foundation by offering even more profound relaxation through fully supported postures using props such as bolsters and blocks, allowing us to surrender fully into rest and renewal. The class is held on the first Friday of every month, in the warm and cosy Lir Suite at the Castlepollard Hotel from 7 to 8 pm.  All equipment is provided just bring a blanket. No previous yoga experience is required.  Next class May 2nd 2025 from 7-8 pm.

Prenatal Yoga

"When we as a society begin to value mothers as the givers and supporters of life, then we will see social change in ways that matter."

Ina May Gaskin

The Structure of the Course is generally run in a 6 week block covering different themes each week based on training with the Prenatal Yoga Training Centre Ireland  and from Evidence- Based pregnancy research which looked at a Protocol Development of a Pregnancy Yoga Programme for stress, anxiety and fear of childbirth (Corrigan et al, 2020).The evidence supports positive effects of practicing Yoga during Pregnancy on anxiety,  depression, perceived stress, normal vaginal birth and shorter duration of labour. In addition, yoga practice may moderate  stress responses at the physiological level which would likely impact both maternal and foetal outcomes (Khalsa et al. 2021).  Some examples of themes which were used in the research that we work with in the class include Building  Emotional Wellbeing, Pelvis and Pelvic Floor, Fear release, Building Strength, Birth Preparation, Slowing Down and Letting Go. As well as focusing on additional areas such as Vocalizations, Visualizations, Pranayama or breath work and Meditation.

The intention of the class is to cultivate a safe and supportive environment for women to gather at all stages of pregnancy & to honour and support each individual on their own unique birth journey and birth choices. Additional resources and information are shared in a group whatsapp if interested.
